Chia was one of the first litter of sapphire babies to be born at Greenwood Chinchillas,
she was one of three kits: a sapphire male that was dead at birth and could not be revived and Zinnia, a full sapphire female. Her birth weight was 42g, the smallest of the litter, which has increased daily.
Chia is unlikely to be sold but shall be staying at Greenwood to pair to one of the male sapphire carriers that we have from other breeding stock lines. However if another breeder of sapphires was interested in a kit swap then this could take place to increase the gene pool that we have- at present there are three litters of sapphire babies that I know of around the country all born the same week.
Chia has shown well considering she is rather small compared to a normal standard of the same age and has carried the weak fur of her mum - her shape and conformation have turned out well though so it is hoped that she can add this shape to counterbalance the long thin shape of the European sapphires we also have.
