Heath arrived from Richline Chinchillas, along with Laurel, Marigold and Rowan.
They are all very timid animals and not great fans of being handled, but with time and patience I am sure they will get to like it a bit more.
It took Heath two weeks to work out what the poly run in his cage was for and to go off and introduce himself to the females! It is the first time he has been used for breeding and to date he is unproven, so I hoping that he will be fertile so hat I can continue to run a line of stock al descended from the Richline animals.
Heath hides away a lot in the cage run now that he has found it and is not keen on coming down to be handled or removed from the cage - to weigh him or take pictures it is necessary to lift the cage down and physically remove him from the un - so he is not handled as often as I would like to.
He is a lovely blocky animal with good veiling coverage which I am hoping he will pass to any kits he produces - only time will tell on that one though. It is unusual to see him actually down in a cage with a female so I am hoping that he is not going to prove to be a poor breeder.
The picture used here of him is from when he first arrived and was looking a bit tatty, I shall try and take some more very soon now that he has settled in.
Despite being paired to 4 females no kits were produced for 6 months, upon moving Heath from a poly system to pair breeding he immediately commenced work and got Angel pregnant.
Due to too many standard males here, Heath has been lent out to Stella on a kit share basis since September 2004.
