Lupin came to me as a bought in chin in order to get him a better home. I originally went out to see his dad that had been advertised as a Black Velvet but proved to be a dark standard. I still bought Moss as he was a very friendly chin and the guy was desperate to be shot of him as he had 4 chins living in a very small cage
During discussions after completing the sale it turned out that the bloke intended to breed Lupin back to his mum as he loved white chins! So i did my little patter about the fatal gene of whites and had he come across beiges that might be more suitable? The guy already had the mum and was keeping the standard daughter that was a litter mate to Lupin. I ran through how a female should not be bred before she is at least 9 months old and that introducing or leaving another male with them could lead to her getting pregnant too early and killing her. He said he would think about it and i left.
Thankfully the next morning I got a call and he asked me if I wanted to buy Lupin for the same price as I had had Moss - so i did so. They are both lovely friendly chins, well used to being handled and love attention.
I intended to keep Lupin and possibly breed from him, but my desire to breed Black Velvets and Violets mean that they have to take priority so I am going to part with him - but it wont be easy. He isn't going to the first person to come along as i need to be sure that he will get all the attention he is used to - he came from a home with 7 kids, 2 dogs and a cat! So will make an ideal pet but is a bit small and fur quality not good for breeding from. So if no one wants him he gets to stay as a pet chin :o)
Lupin went off with Cedar to live with Dave in Oxford.
