Mandrake arrived at Greenwood Chinchillas under very unusual circumstances, he came in as a rescue!

 

The collection had been arranged to collect a standard and a black chin  - so a back velvet was assumed.  But upon arrival it was discovered that the chin was actually Mandrake - who would be either a Hetero Ebony or a Charcoal.   

 

The owners had no further history on him, so the exact parentage is uncertain - but he has had a son who had a clear belly, which suggested that he was a Charcoal and not ebony.   Further pairings to Standards would have been needed to be done to confirm this which. 

 

When pictures were posted upon the Chinchilla World forum it was noted by other breeders that Mandrake actually carried the mask and dark back of a velvet chinchilla - and upon closer investigation paw spats can be seen upon the paws.  

 

Following some leads on where Mandrake came from, I managed to track down his original breeder whose records proved him to be a Hetero Ebony with Velvet.  so a new friendly pet home was found for him as we do not intend to breed ebonies ourselves.
