Arriving as rescues from Lancashire, Pernod came along with Smudge and 5 of their offspring when she was still only 2 years old, there's also a fair chance she is still pregnant as she was living with Smudge the male, and 3 beige boys in the same cage (2 girls were in a separate cage).
Upon arrival here she has been left caring for the youngest kit, Cedar,- who was 2 and half months upon arrival - and the dad and elder boys have been separated off. Dad and Audley went off to a new home in Welwyn Garden City - 26 Sept 2003. Maisie was rehomed down to Essex - 12th Sept 2003.
Pernod will be staying with me for a few months to ensure that she has a good rest - and if she is pregnant can give birth and wean in peace without any more breeding opportunities. Having so many kits so quickly is bound to have taken a toll upon her young body. The plan is that she will rest up and hopefully pair up to share cages with some of the female kits I have coming to breed from in the future, that way they can all rest and grow strong together. To date though Pernod has proven a pain to pair with any chins other than the males she arrived with - she didn't even want to go near the female kits she arrived with, even after the usual cages together for a week.
May be time and a period on her own may make things easier to pair her up - or maybe if she is pregnant again then she will have a female kit that she can remain with and be rehomed with in a year or so time.
