Pirate arrived at Greenwood Chinchillas from Benson Chinchillas in October 2004.

He was originally bred by Brian Wales and sold to Helen Maules, before being purchased by Lizz Benson.  Unfortunately along the way his exact pedigree code and information has become lost - so I am currently researching for any black white males with a 1999 code and the same awards upon any pedigrees I come across with Brian's animals upon it.

Pirate is a lovely friendly animal, and has proven to be very easy to pair up with females here for breeding.  He is known to have produced at least three previous litters which have each contained show winners.

Pirate was sold to me as a mosaic, but the masking of the face and the darkness of the patch above his eye do suggest the presence of the velvet gene - making him a black white cross, though in the three litters known a velvet kit has not knowingly been born. Only time will tell if this will be proven to be correct - but in the meantime he will not be paired to any of the velvet females to avoid the black to black fatal gene combination.

He has currently been paired to Kensi, who also is derived from Brian Wales animals, but 3 generations removed.
