Rosemary was acquired following a fact finding trip to Albatross Chinchillas down in Kent.  I went simply to view their setup and to find out information about show quality chins and their stock.  But before I could leave Heather from there had shown me the only female standard she had at the time, her sister is being kept by Heather for breeding and possibly showing.   I got Rosemary fairly cheap as she had some fur slippage from having caught it on a cage on her right haunch, but with time this will grow back and should not be able to be seen.

Rosemary was born in a litter of quads - 3 girls and a boy, the boy died the next day, one of the girls a few days later. The other female was at the time of purchase being retained by Albatross Chinchillas for future showing and breeding in their own herd.

Both mum and dad were bought by Albatross, on 25th February as a breeding pair - with pregnant mum, from Ridgeway Chinchillas - a privately owned pet shop specialising in chins and parrots in Southend, Essex. They were both bred by John and Lesley Short and paired by them.  Unfortunately more of their pedigree is not known - Albatross Chinchillas allocated them the breeder codes RW1 and RW2

She is a rather timid chin at the moment and not used to having a big cage to run round in - so has been given some company in the form of Rose for the week until she goes off to her new owner - this shall hopefully give Rosemary some time to get used to being in the larger space.  She spends most of her time hiding in the house box so we need to encourage her out of there!

Her fur slip is growing out slowly and she is starting to get back the shiny gloss over the area as the new hair replaces it - hopefully soon she will be back to full glory.

Once her fur had recovered, Rosemary was shown at 3 shows - but received no awards. She was therefore rehomed as our policy is only to breed from the best quality stock possible.
