Prior to this show I had contacted Stephen Helmore with regards to purchasing a violet from him after asking some of the other big breeders who bred good violets for breeding stock, he said he would bring some along and show them and then I could choose from those that he had shown. Spike got the best award of the bunch and was the animal that I picked.
He is a lovely friendly animal, and one of the few males that comes down for a cuddle and a treat rather than hiding away up in the tunnels of the cages.
His colour is more of the Slate Grey Violet than the ideal powder blue but his fur quality and conformation are excellent. Pairing to very blue standards to create quality violet carriers will enable the blueness to be returned to future kits from his blood line.
He has been paired so far to two standard violet carriers from Aileen Cook both of which have produced very good blue violet kits.
Spike is a very friendly and energetic chin, he loves to stick his head out of his cage as soon as the door open - but he can nip a bit as he is so eager to grab the treats he has been spoilt with! does have a very sorry look that he can pull off very well though when he realises he has made that mistake!
Following a long and difficult decision process, it was decided that i had to part with Spike along with the other violets in order to focus on the sapphires and charcoals which we are breeding here. So therefore Spike has been sold to Jessica of Blue Meadow Chinchillas, where i know he will be well cared for and can obtain kits back from her in future should I return to breeding violets.
