Tulip was collected along with Teasal and Yarrow from the Bo'ness show in February 2004.
She came from Sharon who was selling off some of her stock as she was pregnant and could not deal with all of her chinchillas.
Tulip has been paired to many males in her life but has never produced kits so is believed to be infertile. She was bought to pair to Ash, my original pet male, so that he could have company but not produce more kits.
She is a lovely looking animal and appears quite friendly to both people and other chinchillas, so I am hopeful that she can be paired together easily to cage share.
In May 2004 Tulip gave birth to a black white cross female kit, she must have been pregnant when she arrived. This is the first kit she is known to have ever had and unfortunately she killed it by being over zealous in her clean up campaign. The kit only weighed 30g so its chances of survival were slim.
This does however put a new slant on her inability to breed, rather than not being able to conceive it suggests that she can conceive and produce embryos but is unable to either implant or carry them full term - this means that it is possible that she constantly conceives and aborts when paired with a male. For this reason she will no longer be paired with males.
