Greenwood Chinchillas

What's my White?

White genes, not being totally dominant can create a variety of patterning and effect in animals that carry the white gene.

All of the animals in this first section are classified as a Wilson White and are genetically the same - they are generally from a Standard and White gene pairing.

White patterning changes from birth over the first 6 months, see examples here

Wilson White

(White fur over body, dark eyes and dark ears)

Wilson White - Mosaic

(Blend of dark and standard grey fur, dark ears and dark eyes)

Wilson White - Silver

(Under fur is white , but grey tipping all over the body.  Dark ears and eyes)

The following examples show combinations of white fur with other mutation colours.  Generally the patterning can vary as in the above examples, however the fur that shows on the white will be the other mutation colour rather than standard grey.

Black White Cross

(Blend of White and Black Velvet fur, paw spats may or may not be present. Ears and eyes will both be dark)

White Violet

(Blend of White and Violet coloured fur, dark ears and dark eyes. Parents would both need to carry the violet gene to produce this colour)
